Shrove Tuesday is the day when we traditionally indulge a little and enjoy a few pancakes in the evening.
In this video we learn how to make perfect pancakes thanks to instructions from a great Irish chef.
The tradition, of course, stems from the religious festival of Lent – when Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights. Christians around the world often give up something they enjoy for Lent to remind themselves of Jesus’ sacrifice.
The day before Lent begins – Shrove Tuesday – is the last day Christians can enjoy their favourite treats before they have to go without until Easter.
This is why the day has also come to be known as Pancake Day. People like to enjoy a feast of tasty pancakes before they enter a more sombre part of the year.
We have scoured the internet to find a video that shows how to make the perfect pancakes and we think Irish chef Catherine Fulvio is our lady.
Pancakes recipe
Take a look at the video below.
In this video from irishegg’s YouTube channel Catherine explains that while people love traditional pancakes with lemon and butter, she wants to give us a few new ideas.
She talks about how her husband enjoys a savoury pancake with cheese and Irish bacon, while her children love the sweet stuff with lemon curd and whipped cream.
This requires a plain batter without sugar as it ‘covers both angles’.
