An Irish dancer has appeared on Britain’s Got Talent – and left the judges and audience in awe.
Dingle man David Geaney is a former world champion Irish dancer and has created several videos which have gone viral across the world.
However, he is now looking to step things up a notch and is aiming for the maximum exposure that his talents deserve.
The 22-year-old told the judges: “In Ireland there’s not much of an opportunity to put your talent on the big stage. Britain’s Got Talent is one of the biggest talent shows in the world.”
When asked if he thought he could win, he modestly replied: “I can try.”
He then began a routine which blew the judges away. The performance included the screen behind Geaney replicating several clones of him – meaning he was his also in the roles of his own backing dancers.
Simon Cowell is not shy to buzz when he has had enough of an act but he was transfixed all the way through Geaney’s performance.
The judges were delighted with his act with Alesha Dixon saying: “You are amazing, you dance brilliantly.”
However, Cowell played up to his bad guy image by reserving some criticism for Geaney. He said: “I think the idea is better than the execution. The music wasn’t great.. I’m only trying to be helpful, I love the idea.”
Cowell then joined the other three judges in voting Geaney through to the next round, which suggests that he sees potential for even better performances in the coming weeks.
A few years ago Geaney surprised guests at a friend’s wedding reception with an impromptu performance.
Last year he teamed up with fellow world champion James Devine to create a video that celebrated 100 years of Irish pride.
The pair also created a video to show support for the Irish soccer team ahead of Euro 2016.
