Groom Irish dances at his wedding reception

An Irish groom had a surprise in store for his wedding guests as he and seven friends relived their Irish dancing glory days at the reception.

Carlus McWilliams of Derry, decided to get the old gang back together for one last dance – and what better occasion than his wedding to bride Maria.

Carlus, and friends – Brendan Rogers, Deaglan Lowry, Sean Woods, Cathal McGuckin, Paul Woods, Ally McKeown and JD McLaughlin – rolled back the years and put on a great show.

The guests whooped and cheered as the guys performed, and there was a huge round of applause at the end of the dance.

Rebecca Lagan is the girlfriend of one of the dancers who joined Carlus on the dancefloor.

She told the Irish Mirror: “These eight used to dance with each other, but haven’t danced together in years. The groom wanted to surprise the crowd and get the boys back together.

“It was a surprise for all the guests – the groom couldn’t hide it from his bride!”

The lads only had six weeks to prepare their performance after several years without dancing.

Rebecca continued: “The groom contacted the lads to see if they would be willing to regroup. So from about six weeks before the wedding they began meeting in the evenings for practices. They created the routine and music themselves. My boyfriend is one of the dancers and helped put it together and I know the boys would love more people to see it.”
