Construction activity and new orders rose sharply last month, despite signs of a slowdown in growth, the latest figures show. There was also a boost in the number of jobs being created in the sector, according to the U lster Bank Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) – a seasonally adjusted survey which tracks changes.

US life sciences firm Surmodics creating 100 R&D jobs at Co Galway base
One hundred jobs are being created in research and development at a life sciences technology company. US-based Surmodics, which bought Creagh Medical in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, last November, is to invest 16.5 million euro at the facility.
