One hundred jobs are being created in research and development at a life sciences technology company.
US-based Surmodics, which bought Creagh Medical in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, last November, is to invest 16.5 million euro at the facility.
The jobs will be created over the next five years.
Surmodics, which has its headquarters in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, in the US, operates in medical devices and in vitro diagnostics.
The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.
Surmodics will continue to be located in Creagh Medical’s existing 30,000 sq ft facility in Ballinasloe.
It said the new focus on R&D will require a high level of engineering, chemistry and scientific skill.
