Movie fans in Dublin have voted for their favourite actors and actresses from their county and it may come as a surprise to learn that Hollywood superstar Colin Farrell didn’t top their list.
That honour went to the veteran actor and star of classic Irish movies such as Calvary, The Guard and In Bruges, Brendan Gleeson.
The survey was taken by Odeon Cinemas ahead of the opening of a nine-screen cinema in Charlestown next week. Odeon quizzed 1,000 Dubliners over their favourite stars of film and TV.
The highest placed actress on the list was the Oscar winning legend Brenda Fricker. Colin Farrell was second on the list, followed by Colm Meaney and Gabriel Byrne.
Brendan’s son Domhnall Gleeson also made the top 10 after a recent run of films that has included Ex Machina, Brooklyn and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows.
