Dublin’s St Patrick’s Day festival has been named one of the best festivals in the world by a leading online travel magazine.
It was included in the ’Best Festivals In The World For Your 2020 Bucket List’ by travel site Big 7.
The site said there are tens of thousands of festivals around the world, so it was quite a job to whittle them down to the top 50.
Dublin’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations finished a respectable 34th place on the list
Big 7 was full of praise for the festival. The listing on the site read: “St Patrick’s Day is celebrated all over the world, but nowhere does it quite like Ireland, the home of the festival.
“The St. Patrick’s Day Festival in Dublin is a five-day event of outstanding Irish and international entertainment, with a huge street carnival held on the 17th March.
“City landmarks turn green, it’s a national holiday for the entire country and Guinness flows faster than it does all year. As well as parades, you can take part in the world’s largest outdoor céilí. St. Patrick’s Day is the day when everyone wants to be Irish.”
The number one festival in the world was Edinburgh’s New Year celebrations, known as Hogmanay.
North America is the place to be for top festivals. The Just For Laughs comedy Festival in Canada was rated the third best festival in the world.
The USA had three festivals in the top 10 – New York’s National Buffalo Wing Festival, the Colour Run in Orlando, Florida, Comic Con in San Diego and the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival.
