Puppy repeatedly escaped locked crate when owners not looking – secret camera reveals she had an accomplice

A pair of dogs repeatedly outwitted their owners by escaping from their locked crate when left alone in the house.

German Shepherd JoJo was the mastermind behind the prison break of her little sister Sasha that had their owners scratching their heads.

Nine-week-old Sasha was in the process of being trained by her owners Mike and wife Jenene Townsley in Co Down.

Part of young Sasha’s training included getting used to separation from her owners, so that she wouldn’t be upset when they left the house to go to work.

Mike began locking Sasha in her crate in the family kitchen and leaving her for a short while so she would become comfortable without him around.

However, despite only being left for a few minutes, each time Mike returned Sasha had escaped from her crate and was happily scurrying around the house.

This Houdini-style escape occurred several times and had Mike and Jenene baffled.

So much so that they set up a hidden camera in the house to find out how Sasha was breaking free.

Mike said: “We have been training Sasha that it’s OK when we leave the house so we’ve been getting her used to being alone with JoJo for short periods of time.

“I would put Sasha in her crate and step outside for a few minutes at a time and built up the length of separation over a few days.

“But when we built it up to half an hour, every time myself of my wife came back in, Sasha was out of her crate and playing with JoJo.

“My wife Jenene thought I was forgetting to lock the crate or not doing it right, but I knew I was.

“Every time I peered into them from the hall or outside, she was safely in the crate. But the moment I stepped outside the front door I’d come back to find her free. I just couldn’t work it out. I checked the crate and the locking mechanisms, but it seemed fine.

“I kept getting shouted by Jenene for letting the pup roam free instead of training her but I insisted I’d locked up OK and I was determined to see what was going on.

“So, I set up a security camera in the kitchen and let it record as I pretended to leave the house. I stood outside the front door and waited.

“And what did we find when I came back and watched the video… only JoJo breaking Sasha out of her crate for fun and games – despite the big innocent face and wagging tail.”
