Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham has teamed up with Tourism Ireland to create a stirring video about the beauty of the country.
Cunningham says he loves everything about Ireland – even the rain.
There is certainly plenty to love about the emerald isle and much of it is captured in the video.
Cunningham, who starred as the popular Ser Davos in the hit series, may be a Dubliner but he is fond of areas all over the country and named two places in Munster as his absolute favourites.
Cunningham states that his two favourite parts of Ireland are Kerry and Cork.
He said: “My favourite place in Ireland? Well, its got to be more than one, it’s a big place – or it’s a little place with a big heart.
“Two places, the Kingdom – Kerry, it’s heaven on earth – and beautiful West Cork. If they weren’t on the planet the place probably wouldn’t be worth being in.”
While many parts of Ireland might be able to boast a heavenly beauty, Cunningham thinks there is one thing about Ireland that is even better – the people.
The 59-year-old star said: “What I love about Ireland is a no-brainer, it’s the people.
“When I’m away I miss, bizarrely, I miss the rain – is that weird?”
Interspersed with Cunningham’s speaking to camera, the video features stunning area footage of Galley Head Lighthouse, Sherkin Island, Glandore, Ross Castle, Clonakilty, Garnish Island, Gougane Barra, Mizen Head and Bantry House.
It is part of Tourism Ireland’s #FillYourHeartWithIreland campaign, which aims to help people around the world get a glimpse of Ireland while travelling is still restricted due to the covid pandemic.
They hope to keep Ireland at the ‘top of the mind’ for potential international visitors.
Siobhan McManamy, Tourism Ireland’s director of markets said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to work with the Irish Film and Television Academy, and with Liam Cunningham, to create this wonderful video.
“We are sharing the video with our millions of fans and followers on social media around the world – allowing us to keep the beauty of Ireland to the fore. While we may not be able to travel just now, this video will inspire people for their future visit.”
