TV star Jake Wood has taken to Twitter to strike out at the bullying and prejudice faced by ginger haired people.
The EastEnders actor is a familiar face on Irish screens and is considered a heart-throb by many fans.
However, the red-haired actor has lost patience with the way ginger people can be subjected to cruel and abusive behaviour.
He posted: “Bulls*** I’m calling this out. Why is it socially acceptable to take the p**s out of someone for the colour of their hair and not for the colour of their skin?!
“All gingers have experienced being teased and bullied. I’m not even joking Ginger Parrot UK. I’m happy to lead the army.”
Bullsh*t. I’m calling this out. Why is it socially acceptable to take the piss out of someone for the colour of their hair and not for the colour of their skin?! Wood, who plays Max Branning on the popular soap EastEnders, has also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing and is a popular figure in UK television.
His online outburst quickly gained momentum, and was liked and retweeted thousands of times.
He received numerous comments of support, and of people sharing their own experiences of bullying.

The same people that are racist against people of colour are the same ones who are calling out people because they have ginger hair… I totally agree with you and I hear you and it’s great that you’re taking the stand and because it’s not acceptable not acceptable at all

However, there was also a group who questioned Wood’s decision to compare red hair discrimination to racism.
