A survey carried out by One Poll found that people still go weak at the knees when hearing the sweet tones of an Irish brogue.

More than 5,000 men and women were quizzed about various accents from around the world and it was the Irish one they considered to be the sexiest.

Ireland always appears high in these lists. We have sent countless hunks and babes out into the world such as Colin Farrell and Saoirse Ronan and they have made an impression with their charm and good looks.

There is also the romance associated with Ireland as a country that helps us sound sexy to the rest of the world.

Many people will be influenced by their own Irish heritage, and the emotions that their ancestors would have gone through when leaving Ireland to begin a new life elsewhere.

Throughout history, thousands of Irish people have had to leave their home to seek out better opportunities abroad, and several would have had to leave loved ones behind.

Such heart-breaking tales within family histories has left many with a deep sense of romance and warmth towards Ireland.
