Irish comedian faces backlash after mocking Nadine Coyle’s Derry accent

Irish comedian Jason Byrne missed the mark with his latest joke as he poked fun at Northern Irish singer Nadine Coyle’s accent in a short video.

The former Girls Aloud singer is currently in the Australian jungle as part of the ITV reality show I’m a Celebrity get Me Out of Here!

Her Northern Irish accent has been the subject of some gentle teasing throughout her career in the spotlight, but it seems Dublin comic Byrne took the joke a little too far with his latest gag.

The Ireland’s Got Talent judge posted a video onto Twitter of him sat beside his television which was paused with Coyle on-screen.

He pointed at the singer and reeled off a 30-second rant of “ding dong diddly diddle da ding dong diddly do” type sounds to mock her Derry accent.

He threw in the odd phrase closely associated with the show such as “bushtucker trial” and “jungle” to emphasise his point that only the occasional word is audible when Coyle speaks.

The joke was not well received on Twitter with many users criticising the Dubliner.

Byrne was branded “annoying” and “embarrassing” amongst other things by commentators, and another just demanded “everyone leave the poor girl alone”.
