This Franciscan friar literally had a spring in his step as he entertained people at a local food center.
Brother John Aherne created a makeshift stage by placing a piece of wood on the floor to use as his performance area.
He stood at the end of his stage and gave a short blessing. He then delighted onlookers with an expert display of Irish dancing.
The dance took place at the Franciscan Food Center at St. Anthony’s Shrine in 2016, in Downtown Boston, where food is provided to hundreds of people every week.
The sight of Br. John dancing so skilfully while dressed in his friar’s uniform with trolleys and boxes of food in the background may seem like an unusual contrast.
However, he certainly helped to bring joy into people’s day as they arrived at the center to receive food.
As it was St Patrick’s Day, Br. John gave everyone a special treat with his performance.
At the end of Br John’s performance he gave two thumbs up to the camera and wished everyone a ‘Happy St Patrick’s Day’. He was rewarded with a well-deserved cheer from everybody there.
