Anyone who has spent any time on social media might have become dismayed at the generational hostility often on show with baby boomers and millennials seeming to blame each other for all the world’s problems.
So, it is nice to see that back in the real world, kindness can flourish between the generations.
That was the case in a heart-warming video that has emerged online.
The back story to the video was that a homeowner was being interrupted on a daily basis by alerts from his security camera of movement on his front driveway.
When he checked the footage, he learned that it was a young boy riding his bike right onto his driveway while his parents walked the dog along the pavement.
Rather than becoming territorial and trying to put a stop to the youngster’s fun the homeowner decided to get creative and enhance the enjoyment of his driveway.
He told the Irish Mirror: “Every night I would get an alert from my driveway security camera, and at first I was a bit annoyed, but then I found myself looking forward to the evening alert.
“And then inspiration struck, in the form of my wife giving me this great idea. What transpired has turned into the best part of an otherwise dreary pandemic summer.”
The man got out some chalk and drew the outline of a racetrack on the driveway for the boy to cycle around.
The track curved in and out along the square driveway and the boy was delighted when he discovered it on his next visit.
The security footage captured his expression before he went to the start of the track and whizzed around it in impressive time.
As soon as the rain washed the chalk track away, the man went back out and drew a new track. Each new track became increasingly complicated with added bends, straights and hairpin turns.
The homeowner said: “I don’t know who’s having more fun with this, him or me.”
The boy got better and better each day as he practiced on the increasingly difficult racetracks.
