A hilarious routine by Irish stand-up comedian Dara Ó Briain highlights the subtle differences between Catholics and Protestants.
Ó Briain started by talking about mixed marriages – when two people of different religions tie the knot.
He then told a story of a time he was a guest at such a wedding, between a Catholic woman from Cork and a Protestant man from Edinburgh.
He said that the church was split down the middle with Catholics on one side and Protestants on the other.
However, despite being divided by their denomination, Ó Briain noticed that both sides recited the same words in the same order at the same time.
He questioned whether that could really be described as a mixed marriage.
As the story went on he began to pick out the subtle differences between the two sides. For example, Protestants ‘can’t get enough of the damn hymns!’
He realised that the key difference between Catholics and Protestants was how they recited the Lord’s Prayer.
It is a hilarious routine that finishes with the Catholics being incredulous when they are ‘beaten’ by the Protestants.
