An Irish bride and groom were given an emotional surprise on their wedding day, as their friends and family serenaded them in the church with a rendition of Stand By Me.
Shane and Rachel McNally tied the knot at St Joseph’s Church in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan and their big day was made even more special by a musical gift from their loved ones.
As the ceremony ended, the members of the congregation began singing a line each of the famous Ben E King song Stand By Me.
As more and more singers joined in, they stepped out from their seats and moved forwards towards the happy couple.
Both Shane and Rachel are visibly moved by the emotional performance.
The treat was organised by the McNally’s close friend Hannah O’Brien. She told the Irish Mirror: “I realised that there were going to be plenty of singers and musicians attending the wedding and saw the opportunity to do something special for the happy couple who love music.
“I asked family and friends from both sides and we held secret rehearsals for 5 weeks running up to the big day with Starling Blue teaching the harmonies and melody.”
The practice definitely paid off, as the moving performance gave Shane and Rachel the perfect wedding day surprise, and a beautiful moment to begin their life as a married couple together.
The performance was recorded by a member of the congregation, and after being posted online it has been viewed and shared thousands of times.
