RTÉ have created a series of short videos about the 32 counties of Ireland, with one video per county.
They are sure to be a great hit with locals as well as people from all over the world with family links to any particular county – or those who just want to see a little of each county.
RTÉ created the videos as part of their 1916 Easter Rising Commemorations. The one-minute videos were made in partnership with Ireland 2016.
Ireland’s national broadcaster had wanted to create a video about every county that had had some connection to the Rising – it turned out to be every one of them.
Adrian Lynch, Channel Controller, RTÉ One, said: “We initially commissioned six films for our Road to the Rising series but when we saw how strong the films were we wanted to expand them to include every county in Ireland. Each film is different and gives a unique insight into the counties’ connection to 1916.”
Every film takes a look at one county’s particular connection to the Easter Rising. The films include members of the public discussing the Rising and each county has its own story to tell about how it was touched such a vital event in Ireland’s history.
Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys said: “These short films provide a very personal and intimate look at how the Rising affected communities right across this country. While the Rising is often seen as a Dublin-based event, the reality is that families from every county were caught up in the dramatic events of Easter Week 1916. These short videos help to tell their story.”
An RTÉ statement said: “This initiative is dedicated to allowing each county tells its own story about how it was touched by this momentous turning point in Ireland’s history.”
