The most popular date to get married in Northern Ireland has been revealed, and it won’t come as a huge surprise to fans of a summer wedding.
The figures, revealed in the Belfast Telegraph are most surprising in that they show that the most popular date shifted by almost a month between 2015 and 2016.
In 2016, there were a total of 8,306 marriages and 84 civil partnerships registered – around one couple per hour throughout the year!
The most popular date for a wedding in 2016 was 6th August – in 2015 it was 5th September.
The findings were carried out by the Statistics and Research Agency.
Men and women are waiting an average of six years longer to get married than people of the same age 30 years ago.
The average age of a groom today is 32, while women are 30-years-old on average on the day they tie the knot.
The findings also revealed that in 2016 there were 2,572 married couples getting divorced and eight couples of civil partners having their coupling dissolved.
