A beautiful three-bedroomed Waterford family home is being sold through an online raffle with tickets costing just €23.
Christine Morrisey has lived in the home with her son for the past six years but has decided it is time to move on.
She has chosen to sell the house through the online raffle to give first-time buyers the chance to get onto the property ladder at a bargain price.
Christine has also revealed that she will be donating €20,000 of the ticket sales to charity with it being split between the Irish Cancer Society and the Irish Heart Foundation.
The mum said: “I bought this house, I think it was six years ago when I was quite young. I was only 24, 25, and a lot of my friends at the moment are buying properties. Well, they’re trying to buy.
“I’ve seen how difficult it is for them to get on the property ladder.”
She has seen first-hand how difficult it can be for buyers trying to purchase a new home in the current market.
She added: “I’ve got one friend who, like they sold their house, they were lucky because obviously at the moment it’s a sellers’ market, but trying to find another property they’re constantly, constantly being outbid and it’s one of my close friends who I work with so, every day I can see with her, the disappointment in her.”
Christine admits she got a good deal on the house when she bought it, and is happy to pass some of that fortune on to the next owners.
She said: “I feel I was lucky enough that I was able to buy this property back in late 2015. I got it, I suppose, at a good price, and my mortgage is quite low.
“I suppose this home was a starter home for me. At the time, I had split up with my little boy’s dad, and it was just somewhere for us to go.
“So, this was my first home that I had bought. We had been renting previously. It was just somewhere for us to go and somewhere that I could call home for him.
“He was quite young at the time, he was only four when we bought here, and he’s now nine. So, we have kind of outgrown this house.
“I suppose he’s getting more independent. He wants, he doesn’t want to be sitting down with mammy in the sitting room, you know, so it’s just that I need to get a bigger property.”
The house has been a great home for Christine and her son. It can be the same for the next owners and all for the cost of a €23 raffle ticket. The winner will receive the house mortgage-free and with no stamp duty to pay.
The house is located in a quiet cul de sac and is less than two miles from Waterford city centre.
