Dublin has been named as one of the best places in the world for a winter getaway by a leading online travel site.
Big 7 have released their annual list of ‘The 25 Best Cities For Winter Getaways’ and Ireland’s capital features in an impressive 3rd place.
That was considerably higher than places such as Paris, Tampa, Florida, the Cayman Islands and Vienna.
Only Croatia’s capital, Zagreb, and the Chinese city of Heilongjiang finished above Dublin in the list.
San Juan, Puerto Rico and Pape’ete, Tahiti made up the top five.
The listing on Big 7 read: “Dublin is one of the cheapest European cities for international travellers to visit during the winter.
“A round-trip flight from the United States is almost $200 less than the yearly average, with tickets available for under $500.
“Sparkling snow, charming city events, and the chance to warm up with some strong drinks make Dublin a cosy spot for a quiet winter holiday.”
The highest placed American destination was Madison, Wisconsin, which was number eight in the list, while Birmingham was the top destination in the UK, reaching 9th place overall.
It has been a good few months for Dublin in terms of recognition from international travel sites.
