An Irish best man gave his friends the perfect surprise on their wedding day when he played them a video of 30 celebrities, sports stars and television personalities wishing them a happy future.
Just how best man Darren managed to get the likes of Gay Byrne, Ryan Tubridy, Piers Morgan and Eamon Holmes to record their special messages is anybody’s guess.
Last November Darren was asked by his best friend, another Darren, to be his best man for his wedding to Anna.
He knew he wanted to do something extra special for his friends and began a long campaign of pestering and harassing numerous celebrities for a recorded message.
The wedding took place in Portugal last month. All Darren’s hard work came to fruition when the happy couple watched the familiar faces popping up with their best wishes.
He told the Irish Sun: “From the moment Darren asked me to be his best man, I knew that I wanted to do something special for him. I knew that I would do a presentation of embarrassing photos and stories, but I also wanted to do something out of the box.”
Many of the personalities featured in the video comment on how Darren is “like a dog with a bone” and even refer to him as a stalker.
Pop superstar Gary Barlow sang a short message to Darren and Anna, before saying that best man Darren had been a complete star in his persistence.
Barlow said: “Massive respect to your best man who has been an absolute pain in the …. not a pain he’s been an absolute star. He has left endless messages for me on Twitter, he’s tried everything from ‘I’m a really big fan of yours and I’ve bought every record and been on every tour’.
“I mean the lies this guy has told to get this message is admirable, so well done to him and congratulations to you both.”
The list of stars just went on and on throughout the video. There were personal messages from TV stars James Corden, Keith Lemon and Holly Willoughby.
Man Utd fan Darren even got a message from club legend Gary Neville from the hallowed turf of Old Trafford.
The video will definitely feature some celebrities you know, and many add their own taste of humour in their warm wishes to Darren and Anna.
