Last week we showed the video of the Pierce Brosnan Superbowl advert.
However, during the game we realised that the former James Bond actor wasn’t the only Irish star to make an appearance.
Liam Neeson also appeared in an advert and, like Brosnan, he wasn’t afraid to poke a bit of fun at himself.
Neeson’s advert was for the game Clash of Clans, and saw him playing on his phone while waiting for his order in a café.
Neeson had just been beaten by another player whose characters in the game had destroyed Neeson’s town and taken his gold. In the style of his Taken character Bryan Mills, Neeson vowed revenge on the gamer who had bested him.
He said: “I don’t know you Bigbuffetboy85. But if you think you can humiliate me and take my gold, think again.
“I am coming for you with lots of barbarians and dragons. I can’t wait to destroy your village. I will have my revenge.
After stopping to pick up his order he added: “You will regret the day you crossed AngryNeeson52!” and pressed the revenge button.
The advert went down a storm and sent social media into overdrive with delighted viewers saying that Neeson had ‘won the battle of the Superbowl ads’.
Singer Kelly Clarkson tweeted: “Liam Neeson wins for best commercial thus far. Funny 🙂 well, the mad max throw back with @NBCTheVoice was pretty good as well.”
It wasn’t just fans and celebrities who were impressed by the ad. Business website Business Insider said: “Liam Neeson just transformed what could have been an ordinary mobile game ad into a Super Bowl great.”
