Young fans of One Direction have been dealt the devastating news that no one under the age of 14 will be granted entry into the boy band’s Croke Park concerts.
Promotion company MCD, who are responsible for the concerts, have said that due to health and safety restrictions, no one under the age limit will be allowed in. Any fan under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
The news will come as a devastating blow to many young fans, and their parents, who may have rushed in and bought the tickets unaware of the restrictions.
Croke Park staff have pointed out that they are not responsible for the strict age limit. A spokesperson for the stadium said: “We provide the venue for the concerts and the promoters then impose their own health and safety regulations.”
MCD sold the tickets through online sales company, Ticketmaster, and referred the issue to the website’s policy statement which reads: “If there is doubt whether a minor qualifies for age restrictions set out, proof of age may be requested.
“It is the responsibility of the adult accompanying the minor to be able to satisfy staff that the minor is the age they say.”
One Direction will perform three concerts at the 80,000 seater stadium this May, and the tickets sold out within minutes of going on sale.
Many fans now face the dilemma of whether to try and sell their ticket and recoup their money or turn up to the concert and risk being turned away at the gate.
One Direction have become global superstars since finishing third on the 2010 series of British TV Talent show, The X Factor in 2011. They have since sold millions of records and are worth an estimated €30m between them.
