Irish people hoping for a bit of romance should head west to Galway, as it has been named Ireland’s most romantic city.
The same goes for people from outside Ireland. If you’re planning to whisk your loved one away for the weekend and think cities such as Paris and Rome are too obvious, then maybe Galway could be the hidden gem you are looking for.
The results of a ‘love-o-meter’ poll by Swizzels Love Hearts revealed that 20% of people think that Galway is the best place for romance.
Dublin was second in the vote with 18% while the scenic Kerry came in third with 14%. Cork and Kilkenny also made it into the top five.
There are plenty of reasons why the Connacht city has finished top of the romance charts.
Galway is surrounded by beauty spots and is a part of the Wild Atlantic Way – the famous drive from the northernmost county of Donegal down the West coast to the southernmost county of Cork.
There are a number of famous landmarks in Galway such as the Connemara National Park, Salthill promenade, the Spanish Arch, Eyre Square and of course, Galway Bay.
At the south of Galway there are miles of green countryside that have inspired great artists and writers such as W.B. Yeats throughout the ages.
So if you want to make sure your partner has a really special day tomorrow, you know where to go, the people of Ireland have spoken.
