Musician Colin Vearncombe, known as Black, is to be remembered in a memorial in his native city after his death in a road accident.
The singer, from Liverpool, who had a global hit in 1987 with Wonderful Life, suffered swelling on his brain after a crash near Cork Airport on January 10, and died 16 days later.
The singer’s management said the memorial has been planned for the night of Friday February 19 at Liverpool Cathedral ” for the multitude of family, friends, acquaintances and music fans who have expressed a desire to come together to celebrate Colin’s life”.
“Everyone is warmly welcome to join Colin’s family to give him one last wonderful send off.”
The funeral was private.
Vearncombe’s family requested people make donations to two charities in lieu of flowers – Bru Columbanus, which offers accommodation to relatives of patients in Cork hospitals and where the family stayed during his care, or to the West Cork Rapid Response Team, which provides voluntary pre-hospital critical care at the scene of accidents.
Best known for 1980s singles Sweetest Smile and Wonderful Life, Black released 15 albums under his own name and also published poetry and staged exhibitions of his paintings in Cork, where he lived for more than 10 years.
