A Senegalese-American woman has become an online star after an app labelled her nationality as Irish so she played out some of the country’s most recognisable stereotypes.
Astuanta Niang was playing on a game in the social media app TikTok that scrolls through several country’s flags before sticking on one and nominating the user that ‘nationality’.
Astuanta was delighted when the flag that was assigned to her was the green, white and orange tricolour of Ireland.
The 19-year-old wasted no time in celebrating her newly assigned nationality, and uploaded various clips of her celebrating Irish culture.
First up she attempted to perform an Irish jig in traditional style, before holding a handful of potatoes in a triumphant pose.
Finally, Astuanta puts on a green leprechaun hat, and continues her Irish jig.
The harmless fun has captured the attention of thousands of social media users and made Astuanta an overnight star.
Hundreds of thousands people have watched the video, and barring a few mindless comment, it has been well received with viewers full of praise for Astuanta and her fun personality.
Derry Girls actress Nicola Coughlan even spotted it online and gave a shoutout to Astuanta, telling her: “You’re one of us now, Queen!”
Take a look for yourself.
