Central Bank replaces 11 million euro of damaged bank notes
Almost 11 million euro worth of laundered, burned, torn or stained bank notes were replaced by banking chiefs this year. But eagle-eyed note checkers in the Central Bank refused to cash out on 366 notes, the vast majority of which because less than half of the original note was handed in.
Road breakdowns up 5% as number of cars increase
The number of Irish motorists breaking down has risen by 5% during the last year, the AA said. More cars are on the road and drivers are continuing to battle worn out batteries, which caused a quarter of call outs.

Police searching land after dissident republican arms dump discovered
Armed detectives, bomb disposal teams and dog handlers are searching land near the border for a second day after a dissident republican arms dump was uncovered. AK47s, a sniper rifle and components for mortar bombs were reportedly discovered buried on farmland near Jenkinstown, close to the southern shores of the Cooley peninsula in Co Louth.
