Gardai follow car lead amid shooting probe

Gardai investigating a shooting in Co Dublin have appealed for information about a northern registered car.
A 36-year-old man was critically injured after he was hit several times in the gun attack at a housing estate in Lusk on Tuesday.

Garda Superintendent Noel Carolan said officers want to trace the movements of a white Volkswagen Golf with a Northern Ireland registration plate in the days prior to the attack.
Speaking from Balbriggan Garda Station, where an incident room has been set up, the officer said: “I am appealing for information about the movements of a white Volkswagen Golf, bearing a Northern Ireland registration number XFZ 9316, in the days and hours up to 10am on Tuesday July 5 and in particular any sightings of this car in the areas of Dun Emer Estate and Kilhedge Lane, Lusk, Co Dublin.”
The gun attack happened at about 9.35am at Dun Emer Place, about 15 miles from Dublin city, and t he victim is still being treated for his injuries at Beaumont Hospital.
Superintendent Carolan thanked members of the public for their co-operation adding: ” Several hundred separate lines of inquiry are being followed by investigating Gardai with assistance from detectives attached to the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and other national units.”
