Explosive device made safe on Dundalk housing estate

A viable home-made bomb has been made safe in Co Louth.
A controlled explosion was carried out on the improvised explosive device (IED) left at a house on Dundalk’s Blackwater Estate.

Defence Forces bomb disposal experts were called out at about 4.30am on Friday and the scene was declared safe by 5.15am.
A number of homes were evacuated during the alert.
Components from the device were handed over to An Garda Siochana, who have launched an investigation.
In a statement, the Army said it was the 53rd call-out for bomb disposal t eams so far this year and the ninth viable IED made safe.
