An Irish man working as a waiter in Texas received an incredibly generous tip of $750 from a customer to help him fly home to visit his family.
Belfast man Ben Millar was working in a diner in Houston, Texas when he got chatting to one of his customers about U2.
The customer told Ben he had just been to Ireland to see the rock band, and Ben jokingly said he wished he could travel back to see his family.
Ben thought nothing more of it until he collected the customer’s payment, and found the astonishing tip had been left for him along with a note reading: “Hopefully, this can get you back to Ireland for the holidays”.
The note was signed Jeffrey, but the customer had already left before Ben realised, so he never got the chance to thank him.
Ben and his partner Taryn are due to become parents very soon, and plan to use the money to travel back to Ireland once their son is old enough to fly.
Taryn said: “I think it’s a blessing and it couldn’t have happened to a better guy than him. He works really hard.
“He’s pretty stressed right now with money and the baby coming, so this just made his whole year. It’s good to know that there are kind people in the world.”
The stunned couple want to thank the kind stranger for his generosity, and hope he sees their story in the media so he can see how much his kind gesture meant to them.
