Singer Neil Hannon of the Divine Comedy delighted fans at the Electric Picnic festival at the weekend with a rendition of the classic Father Ted song ‘My Lovely Horse’.
The Divine Comedy will forever be linked with the classic Irish show after their song was used in the opening and closing credits.
Hannon’s lovely performance of the Ted and Dougal classic will cement the link between two great Irish institutions – and the fact it happened at the Electric Picnic? Well that is becoming an institution as well so its three for the price of one!
Hannon co-wrote My Lovely Horse with Father Ted creators Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews and the song appeared on the B-side to the Devine Comedy single ‘Gin Soaked Boy’.
Since the song was first aired on the memorable Father Ted episode ‘A song for Europe’ it has burrowed its way into the hearts of fans. There was even a failed petition to make it the official Ireland entry for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.
