Saoirse Ronan has revealed that her mother once had to tell a Hollywood superstar off as they were on the red carpet at the Academy Awards ceremony.
The incident happened when Ronan was just 13-years-old and was nominated for her first ever Oscar for her performance in Atonement.
As she was so young she was accompanied by her mother but as they were on the red carpet, George Clooney caused a bit of a problem.
Ronan recalled the incident as she spoke to American TV host Jimmy Kimmel.
She said: “All I remember was me doing an interview and being in the foreground of this camera shot and going ‘oh yeah, it’s just so great to be here’.
“And my mum was in the background and had this dress with a long train and George Clooney was stood on it and he didn’t realise it.
“My mom is in the background going ‘George! Excuse me!’ And keeps tapping him on the shoulder and he won’t turn around.
“She gets more and more aggressive and he still won’t turn around. He eventually moved out of the way.
“She came up to me after and was like, ‘You’ll never believe what happened to me. You will never believe what George Clooney just did’.”
Ronan now finds herself nominated for Oscar glory again, this time for her starring role in the comedy drama film Lady Bird.
She will find out whether she wins the coveted Best Leading Actress award at the weekend but faces stiff competition from Frances McDormand, Meryl Streep, Sally Hawkins and Margot Robbie.
Good luck to Saoirse from all of us at Ireland Calling.
