Saoirse Ronan is being tipped for an Academy Award next year after receiving rave reviews for her latest film, Lady Bird.
The movie, which features Ronan as high school student Christine ‘Lady Bird’ McPherson who is desperate to leave home for the freedom of college and the outside world.
Lady Bird attends a conservative Catholic high school in Sacramento and also has little room to breathe at home due to her overbearing mother
She is a rebellious student and dreams of moving to New York to go to college and escape her small town life.
It is a moving film with several light-hearted moments and gives Ronan plenty of opportunity to show off her acting range as she effortlessly moves from serious drama to dead pan comedy.
She has received several glowing reviews, including Variety who said that the film ‘further cements her as one of the great actresses of her generation’.
It added: “Ronan navigates the usual coming-of-age tropes with an assured grace that brings the character of Christine ‘Lady Bird’ McPherson to vibrant life.”
The movie is directed by Greta Gerwig who handpicked Ronan for the role.
