Football legend Paul McGrath has paid tribute to the ‘unsung heroes’ working across the country in this time of crisis.
The former Manchester United player posted to heartfelt messages on social media to recognise the bravery and commitment of Irish key workers.
McGrath wrote on Instagram: “A massive Kudos to Aer Lingus staff and everyone involved in getting these vital supplies to our Health Service.
“These are the real heroes of our little country. Stay safe!”
The post followed the announcement that an Aer Lingus plane had begun its journey to China to collect personal protective equipment for medical workers.
Ireland’s football hero, who captured the hearts of the country with some incredible performances at the USA World Cup in 1994, added a second post thanking more key workers in Ireland that are working to keep the public safe.
He wrote: “Unsung heroes are our frontline workers in all areas of healthcare, staff at supermarkets, pharmacies, farmers, butchers, fuel and any shops with essentials, truck drivers all of who are looking after our little island we thank you all and to all you people staying at home, well done.”
“We will get through this together.
“Pictured are staff from my local hospital in Wexford appealing to us all to stay at home.”
