Irish stars back for new series of Downton Abbey
The producers have released the video on YouTube and Vimeo so avid fans can get a sneak preview at the much anticipated fifth series.
The show is set in the fictional Yorkshire manor of Downton Abbey in the early 20th century. The previous series have received worldwide praise for their depiction of life and class divides in Edwardian England.
The main characters are the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants and staff. Viewers see their contrasting political views and attitudes towards historical events. The sinking of the Titanic and the formation of the Irish Free State have been referenced in previous series.
The fifth series sees returns for several familiar faces, including Irish actor Allen Leech, and also guest appearances from British stars Richard E Grant and Anna Chancellor.
Leech, who plays Tom Branson the agent of the family’s estate, gave a clue as to what viewers can expect: “We see a blurring of these lines between the classes, and of course the first socialist government comes into power, which Branson is delighted about. For the first time, Bronson has the opportunity to see change from the inside out.”
Series 5 will be screened on ITV1 at 9pm on Sunday 21st September. It is due for release in America at the start of 2015. Take a look at the trailer below.
