Irish school children share hilarious views on the upcoming presidential election

Irish kids speak about the Presidential elections

A group of young school children have been having their say about the upcoming Irish presidential election.

One person who certainly won’t be getting the job is Donald Trump – if the kids get their way.

With the Presidential election coming up this week, the Irish Independent went to Grace Park Educate Together National School to see which way the wind was blowing.

It seems that the kids know at least as much about politics as some adults.

When asked who the current president is, one child said: “He’s an old man and he’s very small.”

His friend added: “We might be near as tall as him.”

Other children had high praise for Michael D Higgins, calling him ‘very kind’ and ‘a fair-minded man’.

Often politicians can be criticised for being too old and out of touch. Judging by some of the kid’s answers, the country would be a fun place to live if they were in charge.

When asked what they would do if they were president they spoke of building rollercoasters out of chocolate and giving everybody robots.

They also showed their kindness by remembering the homeless and saying they would give them money and throw a party for them.

It all sounds good to us here at Ireland Calling, we can only hope these kids go into politics when they’re older.
