An emotive video from Focus Ireland has highlighted the issue of homelessness amongst young people.
The video tells two different stories about the life of a young woman, one in which she is thriving with support from Focus Ireland, and one in which she faces life-threatening dangers and fears as she ends up living on the streets.
The video, titled “I Can’t Sleep”, features the U2 track “Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own”.
It immediately struck a chord with the public. Within moments of it being broadcast people were taking to social media to discuss the powerful message.
The video was created by Focus Ireland with the support of Bord Gáis Energy (BGE) as part of its campaign to help get young people off the streets.
The video ends with an appeal for people to make a donation of €4. Bord Gais Energy have promised to match every euro donated up to a maximum of €60,000.
Dave Kirwan, Managing Director of Bord Gáis Energy said: “This is a film that will affect everyone who sees it, it is heart-breaking and moving and importantly calls on all of us to consider what is happening in our country at this time.”
