Happy Valentine’s Day to all our readers. Have a great day and make sure you take the time to tell the special person in your life how much they mean to you.
Valentine’s Day is a time for celebration now but it has gruesome origin. The tradition born with the Roman priest Valentine who died on the 14th February. He was beheaded on the orders of Emperor Claudius, because he continued to marry young couples, even though it was forbidden.
Claudius didn’t like his men marrying, because he believed they became weaker soldiers once they had a wife.
Valentine disobeyed this law because he believed in love and the sacrament of marriage. He was beaten and beheaded, but later canonised by the church for his faith and courage.
Now the day is a celebration of love for couples around the world.
