Ed Sheeran has been named the number one artist of the decade by the Official Charts Company.
The singer-songwriter has 12 number ones across the official singles and albums chart between 2010 and 2019, more than any other artist.
He was also awarded the official record breaker award from the Official Charts Company.
Sheeran has also spent the most weeks at number one across both charts over the last decade, at 79 weeks.
He also holds the title for ‘Song of the Decade’ thanks to his hit ‘Shape Of You’. The 2017 song spent 14 weeks at number one and sold over 4.5 million copies.
The star has three songs in the top five of the decade – the others being Thinking Out Loud, which come in 3rd and Perfect, which was 5th.
Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars and Luis Fonsi ft Daddy Yankee’s Despacito made up the rest of the top five.
Sheeran said: “Thank you to everyone who’s supported me over the past ten years, especially my amazing fans. Here’s to the next ten.”
Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company, comments: “Ed truly has dominated this decade and is a worthy recipient of this amazing new award.
“At the start of the decade, he was a little-known (albeit highly rated) young 18-year-old lad from Suffolk – but his catalogue of achievements since then are genuinely remarkable.
“Today, he is firmly established among the highest level of global music superstars.”
Sheeran is the third artist to receive the official record breaker award from the Official Charts Company.
He follows Justin Bieber who was the first ever solo artist to have three singles in the top three positions in the charts simultaneously.
The other artist is Paul McCartney who has had 22 number one albums throughout his career.
Sheeran also had two albums in the top five selling albums of the decade with x at number three and ÷ at number four.
However, he was beaten by his fellow British star Adele whose albums 21 and 25 were the two top selling albums of the decade.
