Irish star Daniel O’Donnell has received a special honour ahead of St Patrick’s Day. The veteran singer was named the New York Donegal Person of the Year.
He was presented with the award at a St. Patrick’s dinner at Antuns in Queens, New York.
O’Donnell posted a photo of himself and his wife Majella at the ceremony, along with the caption: “Delighted to be awarded the New York Donegal Person of the year last night.”
He received hundreds of well-wishes and messages of congratulations from fans.
One said: “Congratulations Daniel couldn’t go to a more deserving person a great singer & caring man, A great photo of you & Majella as well.”
Another added: “Daniel, All those years ago in 1980, when you visited our family here in Kingston, NY. You & I went to lunch at Burger King, you were such good company. I thought then, and still do, that you’re the New York Donegal Person of the Year. Congratulations.”
A third said: “Happy you received this special award, you’re the best performer & your shows are so much fun. You & Majella look marvellous.”
It comes after the star showed his support to fellow Donegal performer Grainne Gallangh, who was competing on Dancing With the Stars.
O’Donnell posted: “Hi there Daniel here just wanted to send a wee message to our Donegal representative this year on Dancing With The Stars.
“Grainne you’re doing a marvellous job, I’ve enjoyed so much your performances with Kai and your dancing is amazing.
“I know how difficult it is from being on Strictly and just well done.
“Donegal is very proud of you and any of you who can vote for Grainne then be sure to do what it says on the screen every Sunday night.
“Good luck and I hope you go all the way to the final.”
