The kids at Irish language school Coláiste Lurgan have produced their own version of one of Hozier’s biggest hits, Someone New.
The performance is as professional and polished as we have come to expect from the talented students of the Galway school.
Coláiste Lurgan have become online stars over the past few years as they translate and perform popular songs into Irish.
The music is used as a tool to help the students learn to speak Gaeilge. However, the brilliant videos produced by the team are so impressive they have become an end in themselves as internet viewers demand more from the talented group.
Hozier’s 2015 hit Someone New is the latest addition to their impressive library of pop songs translated into Irish. The Co Wicklow singer is one of Ireland’s favourite musicians and to have his song given the Coláiste Lurgan treatment is extra special.
Take a look at the video below.
Coláiste Lurgan have been praised by many for their creative idea, and also for the talented performances throughout their videos.
The Irish language has been a source of national pride for many Irish people for centuries. After the Cromwellian invasion in the 17th century, Ireland became anglicised and the language was in danger of dying out. However, various nationalists such as Douglas Hyde and Patrick Pearse worked tirelessly to preserve it.
Now Coláiste Lurgan are continuing that work and making sure that the language is being learned, spoken and even sung by young people.
