Music superstar Niall Horan has proven that he is a man of his word as he kept a promise he made to one of his American fans.
The former One Direction singer noticed Amy Bockerstette in 2019 when a video of her playing golf with US professional Gary Woodland went viral.
Horan commented at the time saying the video was ‘beautiful’ and that he would love to play golf with Amy one day.
Amy, who has Down’s Syndrome, is a huge fan of One Direction and Niall and was thrilled to have received a special message from the star.
Away from music, the Mullingar singer is a huge golf fan himself and a very skilled player.
He didn’t forget his promise to Amy and recently invited her to the prestigious ISPS Handa World Invitational tournament taking place at Galgorm Castle in Northern Ireland.
Amy was delighted to oblige and travelled with her family to Co Antrim to meet her idol.
She was given the honour of hitting the first ball of the tournament ahead of all the illustrious names of the sport.
Niall had great fun meeting Amy and was inspired by her own story.
Amy, 22, was recently offered an athletic scholarship to a US college, which is believed to be a first for a person with Down’s Syndrome.
The This Town singer said: “Meeting Amy was brilliant. She was just a bundle of joy is the phrase you’d use.
“We’ve flown her over from America and she seems to be having a great time.
“She’s just a superstar, and the whole, when she went viral the first time, it was outside of golf.
“She kind of broke the barrier of just a golf story. It was a real sporting moment. Hopefully we can make more memories for her this week.”
Amy was also thrilled with the trip and said: “I loved hitting my first tee shot at the opening.
“Also, Niall was proud of me. It was fun.”
