The Madness from Within is an hour long documentary about the Irish Civil War by RTÉ.
It is named after a quote from Richard Mulcahy, who was a member of the Irish Free State government in 1922. He used the phrase to describe the conflict between the anti-treaty IRA and the Free State forces, many of whom had fought alongside each other just months earlier in the Irish War of Independence.
Part Two of the series takes a closer look at the division between the IRA once the Anglo-Irish Treaty had been passed by a narrow vote in the Dáil, with interviews from supporters of both sides. The role of both Éamon de Valera and Michael Collins is examined, and the way they led their respective parties after the split.
