Garda's widow receives medal in honour of husband who was shot dead

The widow of murdered Garda Tony Golden has been presented with a medal in his honour by the Garda Commissioner.
The experienced officer was shot last year in Omeath, Co Louth, as he escorted a woman to her home nearby.

She had made a complaint of domestic abuse against dissident republican Adrian Crevan Mackin.
The force remembered all 88 members killed in the line of duty during a ceremony on Annual Garda Memorial Day on Saturday at Dublin Castle.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Tanaiste and Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald and Commissioner Noirin O’Sullivan laid wreaths.
Nicola Golden, the wife of Garda Golden, received the medal in his honour.
Ms O’Sullivan said the district of Dundalk had to suffer two murders in a short space of time after the death of Detective Adrian Donohoe in 2013 as robbers held up the credit union in the village of Lordship on the Cooley peninsula.
She said no one understood the sudden shock experienced by the bereaved families and the sad loneliness.
“We can only imagine the determination, the courage and the resolve to keep a hero alive to his children, making sure they remembered as more than a uniformed man in a picture.”
