Woman in Australia rejected for flat because she’s Irish

An Irishwoman living in Australia was turned down for an apartment she was interested in simply because of her nationality.

Megan Ni Cheallaigh is originally from Dublin but has been living Down Under for the past few years.

She had just finished a month-long trip along the west coast of Australia and was ready to settle in Melbourne.

She searched for a place to rent, and inquired about a property in the city.

To her surprise, the landlord rejected her application without even meeting her, with the following message:

“We have had Irish tenants at this property in the past, but alas they always turned they house into their local bar / rowdy social hub.

“I’m sure you’re not like this, but after being bitten several times I have made it a policy not to let to anyone from your country.”

Understandably, Megan was shocked and upset by the unfair treatment. She posted: “Back to reality and trying to find somewhere to live might be a bit harder than I thought”.

She has now changed her plans and decided to travel to Sydney for the festive period, before trying to find a permanent home.
