The beautiful Co Kerry has been named as one of the top three places you ‘must visit before you die’ by a leading travel site.
The south-western county, which is famous for its stunning scenery and many beauty spots, finished ahead of destinations such as Paris, Dubai and The Maldives in the list.
The ‘Top 50 Bucket List Destinations of 2019’ comes from the travel website Big 7, which created the list after a comprehensive survey among up to 1.5 million travellers.
Big 7 used the survey to put together the ultimate bucket list of essential travel locations.
Only Indonesia’s Bali and the US city of New Orleans finished above Kerry. With Marrakech and Sydney making up the top five.
This won’t come as too much of a surprise to anyone who has ever visited the ‘The Kingdom’.
The famous Ring of Kerry is a 100-mile drive that features breath-taking scenery as far as the eye can see. It also boasts the stunning Lakes of Killarney and several picturesque beaches and seaside towns, including Waterville, which was a favourite getaway spot for none other than Charlie Chaplin.
There are also many places of historical interest. Skellig Michael, which featured in the recent Star Wars movies, is a jagged island that was home to ancient Irish monks. It is a short boat trip from the Kerry coast.
