Maybe it started with the Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley…or the revolutionary Countess Markiewicz…or actresses like Hollywood star Maureen O’Hara through to Saoirse Ronan… wherever it began, that image of the fiery, independent Irish woman is a still alive and thriving.
The dating website Rose Brides has a section explaining the charms of Irish women and why they make such wonderful brides.
The site begins its assessment with the rather bold statement: “Their fiery hair, along with their bold personalities, makes Irish brides the perfect choice for men looking for a romp of a good time.”
We’re not sure what to make of “romp of a good time” so we’ll pass quickly by. It gets better. “Women in Ireland are polite but opinionated and quite sharp, so you will find a subject for conversation with her easily.”
Well yes, most Irish people, both men and women, are rarely short of something to say. The problem may be trying to get a word in edgeways, but it’s all worthwhile because as the site says: “Irish women have a spark that is missing from so many women of other countries. Irish brides can bring excitement into your life and they can be your best friend and life partner.” Hear, Hear to that.
“Irish girls are very social and have energetic personalities; they celebrate all the traditional Irish cultural events with gusto.”
The tribute ends with the promise that if you can find the perfect bride in Ireland who you can have fun with ‘All of the lonely nights in your life will be a thing of the past’.
We’ll go along with that. And if any man disagrees, and thinks Irish women are not fiery and bold and wonderful wives, well, we’ll let him tell them himself. He may not last very long.
So that’s how Irish women measure up as potential wives, but what about Irish men as husbands?
