Ireland is home to two of the best road trips in Europe – and it will come as no surprise to anyone who has ever driven either of them – or even gone just part of the way.

EuroCarParts compiled a list of the top five road trips across the continent and named the famous Wild Atlantic Way at number one.

The car specialists created their lists by considering several renowned road trips and comparing important features of each that make for a great drive.

These components included the length of the journey, the best time to go and how popular each road trip was on social media.

The Wild Atlantic Way was always likely to score highly and can be considered a worthy winner.

The huge drive travels all the way along the West Coast of Ireland from Donegal in the north, to Cork in the south.

It takes in countless areas of beautiful scenery and wonderful towns and villages along the way.

The Wild Atlantic Way also incorporates the Ring of Kerry, which is considered by many to be the most stunningly beautiful part of the country.

Other wonderful places to stop for a while along the way include the City of Galway, the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, Croagh Patrick, the Lakes of Killarney, the Hills of Connemara, the Dingle Peninsula and some beautiful beaches, including Portsalon and Silver Strand.

Travellers might even want to stop for a boat trip to the famous Skellig Michael, which was featured in the recent Star Wars Trilogy.

Northern Ireland also had a road trip featured among the top five in Europe.

The Causeway Coast made it into the list at number five and it also is full of stunning scenery and has several attractions to take in along the way.

The road trip starts in Belfast and takes in attractions such as the nine Glens of Antrim, the Carrick a Rede Rope Bridge, Bushmills Whiskey distillery, the Derry Peace Bridge and of course, the Giant’s Causeway, before finishing in Derry.

The drive is full to the brim of beautiful scenery and includes the Dark Hedges, which featured in the HBO series Game of Thrones.

Transfagarasan in Romania, Scotland’s North Coast 500 and Furka Pass in Switzerland, which featured in the James Bond movie Goldfinger, also made it into the top five.
