Guinness have released a sombre advert for St Patrick’s Day this year, as the world comes to terms with the coronavirus pandemic.

The iconic Irish stout brand tells its customers: “When you raise a pint of Guinness, also remember to raise each other up.”

It has also pledged to donate money to help with the ongoing battle against the virus though its ‘Guinness Gives Back Fund’.

The advert features scenes of St Patrick’s Day celebrations in the USA from previous years.

It lists a number of ‘Irish’ things that people love to enjoy on St Patrick’s Day, including a pint, corned beef, Irish music and a big parade,

It encourages viewers to spend time with people they care about as that is the most important thing.

The narrator says: “Don’t worry, we’ll march again.

“On St. Patrick’s Day we are all Irish, but let’s not forget that every day, we are all human.

“What matters is being with people you care about. If you can call the people around you friends or family, you’ve already won.

“When you raise a pint of Guinness, also remember to raise each other up.

“Be good to one another, celebrate safely, thank the ones protecting us.”

Guinness also put out a statement to go with the new advert saying that half a million dollars would be donated to helping communities fight the virus.

The statement said: “We know that St. Patrick’s Day feels different this year. But we’ve been around for 260 years and learned over time that we’re pretty tough when we stick together.

“However you choose to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year, stay safe and be good to one another. Guinness today is committing $500,000 through our Guinness Gives Back Fund to help communities where we live, work and celebrate.”
