American star Christina Hendricks will never forget her visit to Mayo

American star Christina Hendricks has spoken fondly about her time in Ireland and added she will never forget visiting Mayo.

Hendricks, who is best known as Joan Holloway from Mad Men, headed to Mayo after splitting with her husband Geoffrey Arend.

The Good Girl star immersed herself in the area and culture. She stayed in the famous Ashford Castle and posted photos of herself on social media enjoying her surroundings.

Hendricks was sporting a black Aran jumper on one post and took a pair of Irish wolfhounds on a walk through the woods in another.

The dogs – Cronan and Garvan – live in the castle.

Hendricks said: “A sunrise stroll with these stunning creatures feels like a fairytale.”

She also enjoyed a pint of Guinness by the fireplace and even took part in a spot of falconry.

At the end of her trip, the Tin Star actress posted: “Thank you Ashford Castle for the most extraordinary visit. THIS I will never forget.”

Last year, Hendricks was philosophical about the ending of her marriage and it appears that the relationship ended on good terms.

She posted to Instagram: “Twelve years ago we fell in love and became partners. We joined our two amazing families, had countless laughs, made wonderful friends and were blessed with amazing opportunities.

“Today we take our next step together, but on separate paths. We will always be grateful for the love we’ve shared and will always work together to raise our two beautiful dogs.

“We will be taking time to rediscover ourselves in this transition and we thank you for your patience and support in giving us the space to do so.”
